about

Rodent Roommate speaks to the push and pull of nostalgia in one’s life, whether to dive into rethinking what is now unchangeable or to nail the lid without looking back. The three verses give the plot of a being’s past, present, and future along with attempts to keep a safe distance from fond memories. “All the best days will eat you” states the narrator as they leave lit candles in the window to guide the past back home, but keeping their cannon pointed at the top of the hill for the first sign of movement. The guitar streams out a dreamy and chiming layer with a commanding synth pounding the notes on top. All of it funneling towards the chaotic eruption in its closing of this frustrated characters struggle to eventually suffocate their past.

lyrics

Dixie camps out from our tight crew
Parlor tricks for the want ads
Thanks the cramps for the nasty licks
All the boys they’ll forget you

I’m greased as a fiddle, I walk by you whistle
It’s loose but I still considered us to be old pals

Waiting room for the all night stilts
Kicked the cribs out of romance
My dollar clips all the coupon sheets
There’s no rest that’ll save you

I’m greased as a fiddle, I walk by you whistle
It’s loose but I still considered us to be old pals

I don’t care I don’t care I’ll keep my candles right there,
But I don’t believe that you’ll come
I don’t care I don’t care I’ll keep my cannons right there,
But I don’t believe that you’ll run

Doctors list recommends new lungs
I walk out without paying
Out of breath by the time I’m home
All the best days will eat you

I’m greased as a fiddle, I walk by you whistle
It’s loose but I still considered us to be old pals

I don’t care I don’t care I’ll keep my candles right there,
But I don’t believe that you’ll come
I don’t care I don’t care I’ll keep my cannons right there,
But I don’t believe that you’ll run
